EXTREMELY RARE mixed media book illustrations for book/poem titled "The Shepherd to His Love" done with pen and ink and ink wash. The story is typewritten and attached/glued under each illustration. This book was probably done during Mary's college days 1933-1938 at The Art Institute in Chicago. The book was originally sized 8" x 6" with 8 pages total (including cavers) done on illustration Board.
BUT NOW, in order to display the book better, it is ARCHIVALLY framed under glass. Each page rests in its own cell, and the original binding is still intact. The book could be removed from the frame and reassembled as a book with the metal loop binding if preferred. There are a total of six illustrated pages, plus Mary's book plate design. Each page (except #1) is signed Nohl in lower right corner, and also signed on the back of each page with Mary's address.
Mary Nohl artwork is impossible to find as she willed her entire estate to the Kohler Foundation upon her death. This piece came through a collection of a close personal friend, and is about as rare and unique a piece that you will EVER be able to locate or own. Certificate of authenticity and provenance provided upon request- but has numerous signatures.
