BORN: 1909 in Herington, Kansas

DIED: 1935 in Milwaukee, WI

Floyd Pauley is known for Block prints, drawing, illustration, and Gouache Paintings.

Floyd Pauley was born in Herington, Kansas in 1909.

In 1931, penniless, with a burning interest in painting he appeared at the Layton School of Art, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He studied painting at Layton for four years.  His compositions derived almost entirely on his memory of Kansas plains, people, and suffering. He began to get accepted in juried shows in 1933, exhibited throughout Wisconsin, and influenced many young fellow artists.

In 1935, at only 26 years old, Pauley tragically died following a burst appendix. Although he was a prolific painter, not much of his work exists due to his short lifespan.

After his passing, his work was shown at The University of Chicago in 1943, and The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in 1944.
