Eerie, satirical, historical and somewhat humorous, this gouache on illustration board includes a number of (wax) figures seemingly on fire, melting under a Wax Museum sign (reads backwards) at top.
Somewhat identifiable figures appear to be Lincoln, Greek/Roman, Native American, etc. with fire raging, sparks, engulfing it all.
Possibly a reference to the disastrous fire at London's Madame Tussauds Museum in 1925.
But more likely the 1988 fire that destroyed the Southwestern Historical Wax Museum in Texas which happened during Dean Meeker's lifetime, and he certainly would have been motivated to create and document. If so, that would help date the piece to perhaps 1987/1988.
Painting is not signed, but GUARANTEED to be a DEAN MEEKER original work of art.
Purchased from a large sale of Meeker's artwork offered by Meeker's daughter - validating the provenance, and authenticity of the piece. COA available from Gallery includes auction information.
Attractive presentation with new frame under glass.
