The lunch counter at Goldmannâs was a gathering place nestled in Goldmannâs Department Store on Mitchel Street in Milwaukee. The store opened in the early 1930âs and closed in 2004.
A friend mentioned that the original lunch counter was housed in a warehouse in Milwaukee. Immediately I knew it had to be painted. A call was made to get permission to do a reference photo shoot. After the shoot, which had difficult lighting and arrangement, the painting process began. The result is re-creation of the memory of a lunch counterâ¦a lost entity today.
âGhosts of Goldmannâsâ was the inspiration for the rest of the âNostalgiaâ series of paintings.
