The mystery and drama emanating from this print are substantially heightened by the subdued colors, and dual print processes employed in its creation. The edition of 50 prints was commissioned for the 1982 Wisconsin Governorâs Award in Support of the Arts.
The Meeker print depicts heroic figures and were produced by employing a combination of silkscreen combined with an intaglio technique that produced dimensional textures rather than strictly flat prints. By using an aluminum rather than a copper plate, on which Meeker built up a polymer surface to create whatâs known as a collagraph plate, he was able to achieve prints with complex images that often exhibited a painterly quality.
