Small, simple, historic, beautiful painting complimented by powerful Museum-level presentation frame. Impressionist landscape subject is the surrounding Saugutuck, MI landscape - most likely the sandy coastline. Painting is signed, titled Saugutuck, and dated 1910 bottom right corner.
Coincidentally, in 1910 when this was painted, Fursman became an instructor in the Wisconsin School of Art (now part of the University of WisconsinâMilwaukee), dividing his week between Milwaukee and Chicago. That year he also began his long association with the Summer School of Painting at Saugatuck, Michigan (which began in 1898). Until Fursman's death, he remained a director of the program. (which was renamed Ox-Bow and still affiliated with the school of the Chicago Art Institute.)
