Born in Milwaukee, Agnes Cecelia Jessen's parents were Christian and Fernanda Jessen, and she had 4 siblings.

Agnes grew up to be an exceptionally talented artist who paint with watercolors and oils.

She participated in the Works Project Administration (WPA) FROM 1935-1943 producing prints, and printing designs on textiles.

She married Carl Slater and they lived their entire lives in Milwaukee.
