Christopher Priebe

Artist Biography:

As a young man, I attended the University of Wisconsin where I was awarded an MFA in electronic sculpture.   After receiving my MFA, I yielded to my technical side and worked in the computer industry before restarting my efforts in the fine arts.

Currently, travel, photography and French studies dominate my time.  In addition to the United States, I have called the West Indies and France my home.  Exposure to these places has broadened my appreciation of their unique geographies, culture and heritage of design.

Over the past several years, I have been honored to have my work accepted and recognized by numerous national and international juried exhibitions.

I am often “on the road” with my studio in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Artist Statement:

My primary goal has been to create images with impact, balance and high dynamic range.

I strive for strong inter-play between viewer and pictorial space.  I search for drama through scale, spacial tension, and tonal dynamics.  I am attracted by dark and mysterious places and motion.  If I could capture the air around my subjects, I would be content.

Generally, I love the power of black and white and low saturation images.  I am attracted by the mystery and emotion that I can create with this medium.  Lately, I have been shooting in the West Indies with an emphasis on portraiture.  I attempt to render the inner strength, grace and nobility of my subjects.

I am searching for a certain gestalt that captures my attention and keeps me engaged and coming back for more.
