BORN: 1904, LaCrosse
DIED: 2007, Milwaukee
Ida Ozonoff was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1904 and raised in Milwaukee. In 1924, she graduated from the Milwaukee State Normal School, where she studied to be a primary school teacher. With this preparation, she began teaching at Milwaukee public schools for five years until she quit to raise a family with her husband.
After the death of her husband, Ozonoff returned to teaching in 1957. Instead of working in the public school system, she taught ill and injured homebound children for the Lakeside Children’s Center.
It wasn’t until she was in her fifties that Ozonoff took art lessons. She studied under Emily Groom at the Milwaukee-Downer College with Emily Groom and later at the Layton School of Art.
