Artist Statement:
My subject matter is nature and the places that I have been. Whether it is a traditional landscape, floral painting, or plein air painting, I use traditional and nontraditional materials. I love to use oil on linen, but I also love to use acrylic on primed board- especially for plein air painting. Color and brush marks are used to capture movement and depth to have my paintings come alive - making the brush marks dance and the tones sing. Everything is captured in a spontaneous dynamism of the bristles meeting the canvas. I believe plein air painting is the most free and the most spontaneous form of painting and I try to bring some of the same characteristics back into my studio work. I received my BFA from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and have been working in the art restoration and framing industry in Milwaukee, WI for the past ten years. I currently live with my wife in Bay View.
