Buxton was an Appleton, Wisconsin native as well as living in Milwaukee where he began his five decade long career as an artist.  

Buxton graduated in 1964 with a BFA Degree from the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee, which in its prime was one of the top five art schools in the country. He studied under instructors such as Fred Berman and Guido Brink.    He was both a realistic and abstract painter, and was an advanced painter of "social commentary" compositions with topics that are just as relevant today.  

His works have been exhibited at the Walker Art Museum in St. Paul, MN, the Charles Allis Museum in Milwaukee, Wustum Museum in Racine, WI, the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum in Neenah, WI, the Oshkosh Museum in Oshkosh, WI and the Lawrence College, among others.  

Buxton participated in many juried group exhibition competitions and was also an instructor at the Fox Valley Technical College and the local University of Wisconsin Extension, teaching various drawing and painting classes as part of his philosophy that art is for everyone.
